Today is the American Heart Association’s national “Go Red For Women” Day and we celebrated at buffaloBARRE® with another amazing buffaloBARRE® Gives Back event. The free class was taught to a group of fabulous women by Renee and involved raising awareness of heart disease in women, meditation and its benefits, yoga geared towards beginners and a heart healthy celebration with dark chocolate and red wine from local Long Cliff Vineyard & Winery.
Meditation is like taking a vacation from the stress in your life. It helps reduce blood pressure, heart rate, stress, improves sleep and reduces your risk for heart disease.
Heart disease and stroke cause 1 in 3 deaths among women each year. This is more than all cancers combined.
80 percent of cardiac disease and stroke events may be prevented with education and action.
Heart attack symptoms in women can be different than what men experience. Chest pain is often NOT a symptom in women, but jaw pain can be!
Other symptoms of a heart attack are excessive sweating, shortness of breath and back pain.
We wore red and pink to show our support.
Signs that you may be having a stoke: sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body; sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding; sudden trouble seeing or blurred vision in one or both eyes; sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination; sudden severe headache with no known cause.
“Along with leading a heart healthy lifestyle, yoga can help prevent or reverse heart disease.” AHA
Heart healthy celebration. Red wine and dark chocolate! Red wine is heart healthy and contains resveratrol. Resveratrol is found in the skins of red grapes and has been shown to be a potent biological agent that may offer protection against cardiovascular disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes and neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease. Dark chocolate contains flavonoids and is also considered heart healthy especially in its purest form.
Thank you to our instructor Danielle for the wine from her family owned winery, Long Cliff Vineyard & Winery in Sanborn, NY. All were very good. Loved the Hennepin Red especially! WOW!
Another successful buffaloBARRE® Gives Back event on the books!
Thank you all for making buffaloBARRE® a welcoming place where we can empower one another!
